The Honourable Artillery Company (colour photo)
8669942 The Honourable Artillery Company (colour photo) by English Photographer, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: The Honourable Artillery Company. The Honourable Artillery Company, which lays claim to being the oldest regiment in the British Army, traces its foundation to the granting of a charter in 1537 to a company of Archers already in existence. In such an ancient regiment many customs and traditions can naturally be found. Candidates for the Company must be proposed and seconded by present members or show satisfactory credentials, and none but those who have passed through the ranks can become officers. Most of the English Monarchs since the time of the Stuarts appear on the roll of the regiment. We show a pikeman and drummer of the HAC in seventeenth-century uniform, with (inset) the cap badge of the present day.
