5669551 The story of the Wolf and the goat, a serie created by Pellerin printer, 1860 (Epinal print); (add.info.: Jean-Charles Pellerin (1756-1836), French draftsman, illustrator and printer. He is famous for the images he composed since the Revolution and which he printed himself from 1800. Succeeding his father, he took in 1773 the direction of the "Factory of Pellerin" 3. From 1796, he expanded his activity and created the "Imagerie Pellerin". As early as 1800, he started a small business, a real imaginary industry, which later became known as Epinal print. Charles Nicolas Pellerin (1827-1887), his grandson, launched the collection of "constructions": cardboard models to cut and assemble - an aspect of the production of the little-known Epinal print.); Universal History Archive/UIG

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a scene from "The story of the Wolf and the goat," a series created by Pellerin printer in 1860. The intricate details and vibrant colors bring to life this classic tale, showcasing the talent and creativity of Jean-Charles Pellerin, a renowned French draftsman, illustrator, and printer. Pellerin's legacy dates back to the late 18th century when he took over his father's printing business. By 1800, he had established himself as a leading figure in the world of imagery with his innovative prints that became known as Epinal prints. His grandson, Charles Nicolas Pellerin, further expanded their production by introducing cardboard models for cutting and assembling - an aspect of their work that is often overlooked. In this particular image, we see the confrontation between the cunning wolf and the unsuspecting goat, a timeless fable that teaches valuable lessons about trust and deception. The attention to detail in each character's expression adds depth to the narrative, drawing viewers into this enchanting world created by Pellerin. As we admire this piece of artistry from the 19th century, we are reminded of Pellerin's lasting impact on visual storytelling and his contribution to preserving cultural heritage through printmaking.
