The artist humorously portrays the absurdity of genealogy with exaggerated expressions and gestures. Annibal's bewildered face reflects the countless dead ends and false leads encountered during such research. Meanwhile, in the background, other genealogists are seen equally perplexed or engrossed in their own quests for ancestral knowledge.
