EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite Dutch William and Mary Marquetry Cabinet-on-Stand, dating back to the late 17th century. Crafted by the talented Jan Van Mekeren or attributed to him, this extraordinary piece is made of olivewood, ebony, and marquetry. The cabinet stands tall at a height of 195 centimeters with dimensions of 174x61 cm. Its rectangular moulded cornice is adorned with a simple frieze inlaid with delicate floral trails and acanthus strapwork scrolls, centered by a graceful butterfly. The pair of doors feature oval panels showcasing garlanded urns that gracefully release bouquets filled with vibrant tulips, roses, carnations, and other flowers. Every inch of this masterpiece displays meticulous craftsmanship - from the spandrels inlaid with further floral trails and acanthus scrolls to the intricate ribbon-tied oak leaf design on the divide. Opening up reveals a plain interior housing two shelves and multiple drawers for storage. The cabinet's stand complements its beauty perfectly. It features an inlaid frieze decorated with elegant acanthus scrolls that give way to spirally-turned legs resting on cubes embellished with small flower bunches. A waved X-shaped stretcher connects these legs harmoniously. Although some restorations have been made over time and it lacks bun feet originally present, this remarkable piece still exudes timeless elegance. This photograph captures every detail flawlessly thanks to Bridgeman Images' expertise in fine art photography.
