EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the intricate details of a Royal Naval uniform from 1843, showcasing the craftsmanship and history behind each element. The double-breasted coat of blue wool facecloth features exquisite gilt brass buttons with a design of rope twist outer border encircling a foul anchor below a crown, symbolizing the naval heritage. The sleeves are elegantly gathered at the shoulders and adorned with eyelets for securing epaulettes, while the mariner's cuff adds a touch of nautical flair. The interior construction reveals meticulous attention to detail, with layers of lining and interlining providing structure and support. A label sewn into the collar tells the story of Captain George Ourrey Lamperer R.N., who wore this coat during significant naval battles under Lord Nelson and Sir Alexander Cochrane. From the stand-up collar lined in white wool to the pocket flaps edged with gold lace, every aspect of this uniform speaks to tradition and honor. The back vent and sword pleats add functionality without compromising on style, making this piece both practical for seafaring duties and visually striking. This print serves as a tribute to not only British naval history but also to the skilled artisans who crafted such magnificent uniforms for officers like Admiral Lamperer.
