A Feat of Alexander the Great, BC 326 (litho)

8661019 A Feat of Alexander the Great, BC 326 (litho) by Dudley, Robert Ambrose (1867-1951); Private Collection; (add.info.: A Feat of Alexander the Great, BC 326. Alexander the Great was as brave as he was capable, and on his return from India in BC 326 he was strongly opposed by the Malloi (Malava) on the Indus. He was the first to scale their fort. The ladder broke, and for a time he was fighting alone, "a magnificent figure," on the wall. He soon leapt down into the citadel, fighting at bay, and was severely wounded. EDITORS COMMENTS
This powerful lithograph captures a pivotal moment in the life of Alexander the Great, showcasing his unparalleled bravery and skill as a military leader. In BC 326, on his return from India, Alexander faced fierce opposition from the Malloi on the Indus River. Undeterred, he fearlessly led his troops to scale their formidable fort. As depicted in this image by Robert Ambrose Dudley, Alexander is shown standing alone on the wall after the ladder broke during the assault. Despite being vastly outnumbered and facing severe wounds, he fought valiantly with unwavering determination. His figure exudes magnificence and strength as he defends himself against his enemies. The intensity of this scene is palpable as Alexander leaps down into the citadel, fighting fiercely until victory was secured. The artist's attention to detail brings this historic event to life, highlighting not only Alexander's physical prowess but also his strategic brilliance. This lithograph serves as a testament to Alexander's indomitable spirit and unyielding courage in the face of adversity. It immortalizes a defining moment in history when one man's extraordinary feat changed the course of an empire forever.
