In the 10th century, a time of great historical significance, various cultures and events shaped the world we know today. St Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury, is depicted in a vibrant coloured engraving that captures his influential role during this era. An Anglo-Saxon Map from the same period provides us with a glimpse into the geographical knowledge of those times. The miniaturized depiction of The Passage of the Red Sea showcases an artistic representation from the 10th century, illustrating biblical stories that held immense importance for many communities. Meanwhile, a Buddhist chaitya carved in sandstone exemplifies the religious diversity prevalent during this era. A wooden figure portraying Guanyin, a bodhisattva from China's Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960-1127), reflects both spiritual beliefs and artistic craftsmanship flourishing at that time. Moving forward to later centuries but still within our theme, an oil painting titled "The Fire of Rome" depicts one tragic event that occurred on July 18th in AD 64. Exploring ancient civilizations further, we encounter Inca Viracocha from Tiahuanaco Classico (500-900 AD), representing indigenous cultures' rich heritage in South America. Additionally, "The Death of Germanicus, " an oil painting dating back to 1627 portrays historical figures and their impact on society during different periods. Shifting focus to literature and education in later years but still connected to our topic is an intriguing alphabet book featuring famous women published around 1855 by an unknown publisher. It serves as evidence that even though times change drastically over centuries; recognition for remarkable women remains timeless. Lastly, religious costumes throughout medieval ages are showcased through illustrations ranging from priests and popes to members of knightly orders like Hospitallers. These depictions provide insights into evolving fashion trends as well as societal roles within ecclesiastical structures.
