"1490: A Glimpse into the Renaissance and Beyond" Step back in time to the late 15th century, a period of immense cultural and artistic transformation. In this year, Canterbury Tales, one of Geoffrey Chaucer's most renowned works, captivated readers with its vivid tales of medieval life. The woodcut of the Knight from this edition transports us to a world filled with chivalry and honor. Meanwhile, in distant Persia, dancing dervishes mesmerized audiences with their graceful movements. This Persian Timurid manuscript illumination from 1490 showcases the rich artistic heritage of the region. Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian polymath who would leave an indelible mark on history, was at his creative peak during this time. La Belle Ferronnière is just one example of his masterful portraiture skills that continue to awe us today. Domenico Ghirlandaio's "An Old Man and His Grandson" offers a touching glimpse into familial love and aging. Through his brushstrokes, he immortalizes a tender bond that transcends generations. The world itself was expanding rapidly as explorers like Bartholomeu Diaz pushed boundaries beyond known horizons. A map from around 1490 incorporates these discoveries and opens our eyes to new possibilities. Intriguingly detailed drawings by Leonardo da Vinci reveal not only his fascination with human anatomy but also his insatiable curiosity about nature itself – comparing sections of an onion to those found within our own heads shows how deeply he delved into understanding life's intricacies. Amidst all these wonders lies another marvel – giraffes. These majestic creatures captured imaginations then as they do now; their elegance is forever etched in art for future generations to admire. Religion played a significant role during this era too. Leonardo da Vinci's "Virgin of the Rocks" exemplifies both his artistic genius and devotion to depicting sacred subjects.
