"Exploring the Riches of the 17th Century BC: From Europe's Oldest City to Egyptian Artifacts" Step back in time to the 17th century BC, where history unfolds before our eyes. One remarkable site that stands as a testament to ancient civilization is Knossos Palace, dating back to 2000 BC and considered Europe's oldest city. The Queens Bath within its walls offers a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle enjoyed by royalty. Moving eastward, we delve into the fascinating world of Egypt during this era. An exquisite amulet catches our attention - a Female Sphinx from the Middle Kingdom (Dynasties 11-13), crafted between approximately 2055 and 1650 BCE. Its intricate details speak volumes about Egyptian artistry. Another captivating artifact is a figurine of a Seated Man from the same period, its creator unknown but leaving us in awe of their skillful craftsmanship. As we explore further, we encounter an enigmatic palette with uncertain origins but believed to be from Dynasty 12-13 (around 1985-1650 BCE). This mysterious piece invites speculation about its purpose and significance. Scarabs hold great importance in ancient Egyptian culture, serving as powerful symbols and protective amulets. We come across various scarab designs from different periods - one adorned with cross patterns hailing from the Second Intermediate Period; another bearing hieroglyphs representing kingship, life, stability, and lordship during Dynasties 12-14; yet another shrouded in mystery with unidentified hieroglyphs belonging to either Middle Kingdom or Second Intermediate Period. The falcon deity depicted on one scarab takes us through time as it transitions between eras - originating from the Second Intermediate Period but continuing into New Kingdom Dynasties 15-20. Unlinked scrolls and spirals adorn another scarab while central cable motifs intrigue us on yet another specimen.
