In the year 1871, amidst a world of change and creativity, Proust, at the tender age of about 31, embarked on his literary journey that would captivate readers for generations to come. Meanwhile, in Wells Cathedral, its ancient stones bore witness to the passing of time as they stood tall against the backdrop of this eventful year. On a map of Europe in 1871, Germany emerged as a united nation after years of political upheaval. As coal miners toiled away in Durham Pit Pony, their labor fueled industrial progress and propelled society forward. Artistic expression flourished as Pissarro captured Lordship Lane Station on canvas with meticulous detail. Across the English Channel, Edward Lear's whimsical drawing from his book Nonsense Songs transported readers into an enchanting world filled with silver-spangled Hamburgh cocks and hens.
