The 1900s decade was a time of immense change and cultural diversity. From the captivating illustrations of Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories for Little Children" to the mesmerizing photochrome view of Beirut, Lebanon in 1895, this era was marked by artistic brilliance and global exploration. One striking image from this period captures the essence of Ellis Island, where countless immigrants embarked on their journey to New York. In a portrait taken in 1906, we see a Ruthenian woman, her face filled with hope and uncertainty as she arrives from Ukraine or Belarus. Trunks belonging to these brave arrivals are scattered around Ellis Island, symbolizing their dreams and aspirations for a better life. In Guthrie, Oklahoma stands Moses Weinberger's Same Old Moses Saloon - the first legal saloon in the Oklahoma Territory since 1890. A photograph taken around 1900 shows Moses himself at its entrance alongside bartenders Mack O'Brien and Ike Reed. This establishment served as both a gathering place for locals and an embodiment of changing social norms during that time. London's gin industry also thrived during this decade as depicted by Gordon & Company gin label from around 1900. The intricate design showcases the elegance associated with this popular spirit at that time. Artistic expression extended beyond literature and spirits; it encompassed cowboy art too. Charles Russell's oil painting titled "In Without Knocking" transports us back to 1909 when cowboys roamed vast landscapes with untamed beauty serving as their backdrop. Ellis Island once again takes center stage in another poignant photograph capturing family bonds circa 1910. A mother lovingly holds her two daughters close while they embark on their own American dream after arriving from the Netherlands. Traveling across continents brings us to New Zealand where we witness nature's splendor through a breathtaking drop scene on Wanganui River captured in a photograph circa1920.
