"Journey Through Time: Exploring the Treasures of the 2nd Century" Step back in time and immerse yourself in the captivating world of the 2nd century. From exquisite sculptures to intricate tapestries, this era holds a wealth of artistic wonders that continue to mesmerize us today. One such masterpiece is "The Sleeping Hermaphrodite, " an enchanting copy crafted after an original from the 2nd century BC. With its delicate marble form, this sculpture showcases Gian Lorenzo Bernini's genius as he added a mattress, breathing life into this ancient beauty. As we delve further into history, we encounter a remarkable tapestry known as "Return of Marius Aurelius. " Woven with wool in Flanders or Tournai around 1450-1500, it depicts scenes filled with grandeur and drama, transporting us to another time. Moving on to ceramics, we are introduced to two ballplayers frozen in time. The Seated Ballplayer and Standing Ballplayer from the 1st century BC-3rd century CE captivate us with their skillful craftsmanship and evoke images of ancient sporting events long gone by. A glimpse into personal grooming rituals reveals a stunning cosmetic palette made from schist during the A. D. 2nd-3rd century. Its intricate design speaks volumes about the importance placed on beauty even centuries ago. Marvel at Leda of the "Naples Uffizi" type carved from marble during the 1st/2nd century AD. This sculpture captures both grace and sensuality as Leda embraces her swan lover – a timeless symbol of passion and desire. Intriguing mythological tales come alive through Group of Pan and Daphnis sculpted in marble during the 2nd century. These intertwined figures transport us to mythical realms where gods and mortals intertwine their destinies. The mighty Farnese Hercules stands tall, a testament to the strength and power of the 2nd century AD.
