2 Squadron, also known as "The Flying Cheetahs, " has a rich history in the UK Royal Air Force. Established in 1915, this squadron has operated various iconic aircraft throughout its existence. One of their early aircraft was the Hawker Audax, a biplane used for reconnaissance and light bombing missions during World War II. It was later replaced by the Bristol F-2B Fighter, which played a crucial role in air-to-air combat. In the post-war era, 2 Squadron transitioned to different aircraft types. They operated the Westland Lysander Mk1 Aircraft, renowned for its ability to land and take off from unprepared surfaces. The North American P-51A Mustang soon joined their fleet, providing them with enhanced speed and firepower. During the Cold War period, 2 Squadron became part of the UK Royal Air Force's frontline defense with their Sepecat Jaguar GR-1 Aircraft. These versatile jets were capable of both ground attack and reconnaissance missions. Throughout their history, 2 Squadron also flew other notable planes such as RAF BE-2C and Supermarine Swift FR-5. The RAF BE-2A served as an important observation aircraft during World War I while Uk Army Aeroplane No. 207 Maurice Farman Type Royal Ai showcased their collaboration with army forces. As technology advanced further into modern times, 2 Squadron embraced jet-powered fighters like Gloster Meteor FR-9 and North American P-51 NA-73 Mustang 1 variant. With each new generation of aircraft they operate, 2 Squadron continues to uphold its legacy as one of the most distinguished units within the UK Royal Air Force. Their commitment to excellence remains unwavering as they soar through skies past and present.
