"9 Thermidor: The Act of Justice and the Fall of Robespierre" In the engraving titled "The Act of Justice of 9-10 Thermidor, " we witness a pivotal moment in history. It was on this fateful day, July 27-28, 1794, that Maximilien Robespierre's reign of terror came to an end. The image captures the intense atmosphere as justice is finally served. Another engraving depicts Robespierre himself waiting for execution after shooting himself in the jaw. His face bears both physical and emotional pain, reflecting the turmoil he brought upon France during his time in power. Meanwhile, in Jean-Joseph-Francois Tassaert's artwork "The Arrest of Robespierre on 27 July 1794, " we see the dramatic moment when Robespierre is apprehended. This event marked a turning point for France and signaled hope for those who had suffered under his oppressive rule. Inside Saint-Lazare Prison, depicted by Hubert Robert in his corridor painting from around 1793, prisoners await their fate.
