Accipiter, a genus of birds of prey, includes various species such as the Accipiter gentilis (northern goshawk), Accipiter cooperii (Cooper's hawk), and Accipiter striatus (sharp-shinned hawk). These magnificent creatures showcase their hunting prowess in different parts of the world. In Finland, an awe-inspiring sight unfolds as a Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) plucks a Willow Grouse (Lagopus lagopus) amidst the serene landscapes of Liminka. Meanwhile, in Cape May, NJ, USA, an immature Cooper's Hawk takes flight during its fall migration in October. The Northern goshawk demonstrates its dominance by perching on a snag with grouse prey in Finland during March. On the other side of the globe in China's Hubei province, we witness the gracefulness of a Chinese Sparrowhawk (Accipiter soloensis) soaring through the skies in July. Not to be outdone by its larger counterparts, an Adult male Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) proudly displays its catch while perched on a branch in Dumfries.
