Alexander Nikolaevich, also known as Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich of Russia, was a prominent figure in Russian history during the 19th century. Born in 1818, he was the eldest son of Emperor Nicholas I and played a significant role in shaping the future of his country. This portrait by Stieler captures the youthful charm and regal presence of Alexander Nikolaevich. As a young man, he served as a Junker in the Life-Guards Caucasian-Mountain squadron, displaying his dedication to military service. In 1856, Alexander Nikolaevich ascended to the throne as Emperor Alexander II. This image showcases him wearing the gala uniform of the Life Guard Cavalry Regiment, symbolizing his authority and leadership. Tragedy struck on February 17, 1880 when an explosion rocked the Winter Palace's dining room.
