Alexander Nikolaevich, also known as Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich of Russia, was a prominent figure in Russian history during the 19th century. Born in 1818, he was the eldest son of Emperor Nicholas I and played a significant role in shaping the future of his country. This portrait by Stieler captures the youthful charm and regal presence of Alexander Nikolaevich. As a young man, he served as a Junker in the Life-Guards Caucasian-Mountain squadron, displaying his dedication to military service. In 1856, Alexander Nikolaevich ascended to the throne as Emperor Alexander II. This image showcases him wearing the gala uniform of the Life Guard Cavalry Regiment, symbolizing his authority and leadership. Tragedy struck on February 17, 1880 when an explosion rocked the Winter Palace's dining room. This photograph depicts the aftermath of this devastating event that shook not only Alexander II but also all of Russia. During his reign, Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich emerged as one of Russia's influential figures. This captivating photograph from c1860-c1862 portrays him with an air of sophistication and power befitting his status. As emperor, Alexander II adopted various coats-of-arms to represent himself and his reign. The Coat of Arms featured here is from mid-late 19th century Russia - a symbol that embodied both tradition and modernity under his rule. The assassination attempt on Tsar Alexander II in St Petersburg marked a turning point in Russian history. In this tragic moment captured by unknown artists' renditions, we witness how violence shattered stability and forever altered political landscapes. Following the assassination attempt depicted earlier came scenes showing transportation for medical treatment for wounded Tsar Alexender II - highlighting not only personal tragedy but also resilience amidst adversity within royal circles. Tsar Nicholas I can be seen alongside Tsarevich Alexander Nikolayevitch (Alexander II) and his retinue in this historical painting by Krüger.
