This captivating photo captures the beauty of an Anas crecca, commonly known as a male Green-winged Teal, flapping its wings gracefully on Union Bay in Seattle, Washington State. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns on its feathers make it a true spectacle to behold. The image, numbered 12478752, showcases the stunning features of this Green-winged teal drake. Its iridescent green head and striking white crescent-shaped patch around its eyes are truly mesmerizing. This species is known for its small size but big personality. In another scene captured by the lens, we see a Marsh harrier female (Circus aeruginosus) hunting amidst a flock of panicked Common teal. The contrast between the two species is evident; however, even in such chaos, our Green-winged teal stands out with elegance and poise. Flipping through page 319 of "The Teal" from 1810-17 reveals an intriguing watercolor painting accompanied by manuscript text about these fascinating creatures. It's incredible how much knowledge has been accumulated over time about these beautiful birds. Other images labeled as 1802_0103, P2A5014, and P2A4781 showcase different angles and perspectives of this magnificent bird. Whether resting in flooded woodlands or mingling with other waterfowl like Wigeon (Anas penelope), the Green-winged teal remains a sight to behold. Lastly, we witness a dense flock of Common teal alongside some Wigeon once again. Amongst them stands our protagonist - the majestic Green-winged Teal - radiating tranquility amidst all the commotion. These hints provide us with glimpses into the world - their habitat in Washington State's Union Bay and their interactions with other avian species. Each photograph tells a story that highlights their unique characteristics while reminding us why nature photography is so awe-inspiring.
