Anselmus Boetius de Boodt was a renowned botanist and naturalist, known for his extensive research on various plant species. His studies encompassed a wide range of beautiful flowers, including the mesmerizing Blue Iris (Iris sibirica) found in Siberia and the enchanting Portuguese irides lusitanae. De Boodt's exploration also led him to discover the captivating Affodil (Asphodelus heroion), commonly known as Asphodel or Affodille, along with the striking Purple iris (Iris germanica). These vibrant purple blooms added a touch of elegance to any garden they adorned. In his botanical expeditions, De Boodt encountered other fascinating plants like the Bolderik (Agrostemma githago Koorn Roose pseudo Melanthium), which showcased delicate pink petals that danced in the wind. He also came across the Yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus Geluwe Lisbloeme), radiating sunshine with its golden hues. The beauty of nature didn't stop at flowers alone; De Boodt marveled at various flora such as Ajuijn field Ornithogalon Spicatum, an exquisite member of the Asphodel family. Additionally, he discovered the resplendent Yellow Lily (Lilium liliosphodelus Luteus LIliflorus adoratus), spreading joy with its bright yellow petals. Not limiting himself to plants alone, De Boodt delved into studying lentils like Lens culinaris Wilde Sene Collutea Theophrasti – their nutritional value and diverse uses fascinated him. He even observed peculiar insects like Lychnis coronaria or Cuckoo flower Lychnis Prick nose fluttering around these botanical wonders. With meticulous attention to detail, De Boodt documented thirty-nine leaf variations alongside bloodless animals and insect variae that he encountered during his expeditions.
