"Exploring the Anthropoidea: Tracing History and Diversity" Step into the ancient world at Qasr al Azraq in Jordan, where a stone door stands as a testament to the rich history of Latin Basianis. This Blue Fortress, once a Roman and Byzantine military camp, guards stories of battles fought on the anterior Limes Arabiae et Palaestinae. Intriguingly, historical depictions reveal St Catherine of Alexandria disputing with Petronius Maximus, portrayed as a Western Roman buffy-tufted marmoset. Such artistic interpretations captivate viewers with their symbolic significance. Travel further back in time to Rome's Museum of the Capitol, where an 18th-century marble statue portrays a monkey. Its origins shrouded in mystery add an air of intrigue to this digital reproduction. Immerse yourself in ancient entertainment at The Theatre of Marcellus—a grand structure initiated by Julius Caesar himself. Witnessing schoolboys drill in Kalabakas during a school trip transports us to Greece's historical past. Venturing into Southeast Asia, encounter adorable Bonnet macaques like Macaca radiata captured in captivity. These baby monkeys evoke both fascination and concern for their well-being. Maps from 1897 provide insights into species distribution within Anthropoidea—highlighting various families such as Hapalidae and Cebidae. Genera like Semnopithecus, Nasalis, and Colobus also find their place on these intricate maps. Lemuroidea takes center stage with its own map showcasing living and fossilized Anthropoidea species—an invaluable resource for understanding our primate ancestors' evolution over time. Lastly, we pay homage to Georges-Louis Leclerc Buffon—a prominent figure whose contributions shaped our knowledge of natural history during the 18th century. His work continues to inspire exploration into the fascinating realm of Anthropoidea.
