The Apatosaurus, previously known as Brontosaurus, was a majestic dinosaur of the Jurassic Era. Its fossilized bones, including hind legs, can be found at Dinosaur National Monument. This extinct genus of sauropod, Apatosaurus excelsus, was a herbivore that roamed the ancient lands. In the company of other dinosaurs like Ceratosaurus, Coelurosaur, Camptosaurus, Stegosaurus and Brachio, the Apatosaurus stood tall and mighty. A black and white illustration captures the essence of this prehistoric era dinosaur. It belonged to a group called Brontosaurs or Thunder Saurians - an apt name for these colossal creatures. The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine featured this fascinating group in May to October 1904. As we marvel at these remnants from millions of years ago, we are reminded of the incredible diversity that once existed on our planet. The Apatosaurus serves as a reminder that even giants can be gentle herbivores in nature's grand tapestry.
