"Saint Bernardino of Siena: A Healer and Devotee of Faith" In the captivating frescoes adorning the Chapel of St. Bernardino of Siena, located within the Church of St. Francis, we witness the miraculous acts performed by Saint Bernardino himself. Created anonymously around 1461, these masterpieces depict the saint's unwavering devotion to healing those in need. One particular scene showcases Saint Bernardino as he miraculously heals a man and a woman from their afflictions. The power emanating from his gentle touch is palpable, instilling hope and faith in all who gaze upon this sacred artwork. The life story of Saint Francis also finds its place within these hallowed walls, depicted on the vaulted ceiling of the central apse through an exquisite fresco dating back to 1450. This inclusion highlights not only Saint Bernardino's connection to his fellow saint but also his dedication to following in his footsteps. Various other artistic renditions pay homage to this revered figure throughout history. From terracotta sculptures created between 1470-1480 by unknown artists to Vincenzo Foppa's masterpiece showcasing him around 1495-1500, each piece captures different aspects of Saint Bernardino's essence – be it his compassion or spiritual fervor. Even Jacques Callot immortalized him alongside other saints like Potentiana, Dunstan, and Yvo in intricate engravings that showcase their collective holiness and impact on society during their time. A Madonna and Child painting from approximately 1480-1485 further exemplifies how deeply intertwined Saint Jerome was with Saint Bernardinus' life journey – both figures serving as symbols for piety and devotion. Episode 25 portrays an awe-inspiring moment when our beloved saint cures a diseased young man while Episode 26 continues illustrating more remarkable feats accomplished by him during his stay in Rome.
