The Bourbon Dynasty, a tale of power and tragedy, is beautifully depicted in a collection of historic artworks. In "The Entry of Louis XIV and Maria Theresa into Arras, " we witness the grandeur of their reign as they triumphantly enter the city. The painting captures the opulence and majesty that defined this iconic era. Moving forward to another pivotal moment in history, "Louis XVI Taking Leave of his Wife and Family" showcases the heart-wrenching farewell between Louis XVI and his loved ones. This colored engraving evokes deep emotions, reminding us of the turbulent times that led to their ultimate demise. In contrast, "Portrait of Marie Therese Charlotte of France and Delfino Louis Joseph Xavier" portrays a tender scene filled with innocence. Painted on canvas, it immortalizes two young royals whose lives would be forever shaped by their royal lineage. A significant figure during this dynasty was Colbert, as seen in "Colbert Presenting the Members of the Royal Academy of Sciences to Louis XIV. " This oil painting highlights Colbert's influence on scientific progress under King Louis XIV's rule. Another masterpiece capturing King Louis XIV is found in "Full-length Portrait. " Painted in 1701, it showcases his regal stature while symbolizing his absolute authority over France during this period. Delving further back into history, we encounter an illustration titled "Francis I of France and Charles V. " This lithograph from 1935 depicts a meeting between two powerful monarchs who shaped European politics during their time. Tragedy strikes with both assassinations portrayed: first Henry IV's assassination in 1610 captured through an engraving; then again with King Henry IV's assassination depicted in an 1897 engraving. These events serve as reminders that even kings are not immune to violence or political turmoil. "The Martyrdom of Louis XVI" presents yet another somber moment etched into history.
