In the swinging sixties, Bobby Charlton and some of the Manchester United football team decided to take a break from their rigorous training schedule and indulge in a game of ten pin bowling at Silver Blades bowling alley in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The atmosphere was electric as this group of young people gathered for an evening filled with strikes and spares. Meanwhile, across town at the New York Association for the Blind on East 59th Street, a heartwarming sight unfolded. A blind man fearlessly rolled his bowling ball down the lane, relying solely on his sense of touch and sound to guide him towards victory. Traveling back in time to 1964, we find ourselves witnessing another scene from Sheffield's vibrant history. Michael Walters captures the essence of ten pin bowling with his black and white illustration depicting men engrossed in friendly competition at a local alley. But let's not forget that bowling has been enjoyed for centuries. In an enchanting image from the 19th century, early bowlers can be seen playing outside amidst picturesque surroundings. Bowling wasn't just limited to leisurely pursuits; it also brought communities together. At a steelworks social evening in Sheffield during 1964, workers bonded over strikes and gutter balls while enjoying each other's company off-duty. Venturing further afield to Panama's Canal Zone around c1910 takes us inside the Gatun Y. M. C. A. , where locals sought entertainment at their very own bowling alley - a hub of excitement within this bustling region. From historic moments to natural wonders: Bowling Ball Beach near Point Arena in California showcases nature's artistry as smooth stones resembling giant-sized balls line up along its shore like pins waiting to be knocked down by ocean waves. Lastly, we journey back home to Syracuse, New York in 1910 where dedicated pin boys worked tirelessly until midnight at a busy downtown bowling alley. Their commitment ensured that enthusiasts could enjoy endless rounds without interruption. Bowling ball.
