"Bucher: A Glimpse into the Dark History of Executions and Witch Hunts" Step back in time as we delve into the haunting world of "bucher, " where lives were tragically cut short and beliefs were put to the test. From the execution of Italian religious reformer Arnaldo da Brescia, whose fiery fate awaited him on that fateful day in 1155, to the burning of Jerome Savonarole in Florence in 1498, these engravings capture moments etched forever in history. Witness the destruction that unfolded when feudal rights registers were set ablaze in Bologna during the 19th century, a symbolic act challenging authority. In Orleans, Constance made heretics face their ultimate punishment - flames engulfing their bodies as they paid for their dissent. The medieval witch hunts come alive through vivid imagery depicting French cities ablaze with accusations and fear. Joan of Arc herself faced condemnation for witchcraft before meeting her tragic end at Rouen's stakes on May 30th, 1431. Louis Gaufridy's martyrdom unfolds before our eyes; accused of diabolical seduction and witchcraft on nuns, he was condemned to be burnt alive in Aix-en-Provence. The infamous Michel Servet met a similar fate at Calvin's order - burned alive amidst religious turmoil. However, not all stories ended so gruesomely. Sir H. M. Stanley intervened just in time to save an old prisoner from being burned alive by appealing for his grace from Mtesa, king of Uganda. This tale offers a glimmer of hope amid darkness. Travel further back to ancient China during Qin Shi Huang's reign when books were burned and scholars slaughtered - an attempt to control knowledge itself. Toulouse witnessed its own autodafe as hundreds fell victim to accusations of witchcraft during a tumultuous period.
