"Unveiling the Layers of Capitalism: A Historical Perspective" From the iconic American Socialist poster, "Capitalist Pyramid, 1911, " to Joseph Keppler's scathing anti-trust cartoon, "The Bosses of the Senate" in 1889, it has been a subject of intense scrutiny and critique. This French poster for the Socialist Party (SFIO) reflects the global reach of this economic system. As we delve into history, we encounter another powerful illustration by Keppler titled "The Modern Colossus of (Rail) Roads" from 1879. It attacks the railroad trust formed by influential figures like William Henry Vanderbilt and Jay Gould. These images highlight how they are consolidate power in few hands. In Karl Marx's seminal work "Das Kapital, " published in 1867, he dissected capitalism's inner workings and its impact on society. The Soviet political poster by Deni Viktor in 1919 echoes Marx's sentiment with its call to either crush or be crushed by capitalism. Moving forward to modern times, a snapshot captures stock brokers trading fervently on the floor of New York Stock Exchange in 1963. This image represents one facet of capitalist economies – financial markets driven by profit-seeking individuals. However, it is essential not to overlook how capitalism shapes our daily lives beyond economics. The street scene at Nollendorfplatz in West Berlin showcases both its presence and influence on urban landscapes worldwide. Moreover, Dmitri Stachievich Moor's striking artwork from 1920 depicts an insatiable capitalist devouring everything within its path – a reminder that unchecked greed can have dire consequences for society as a whole. Finally, an American flag above the entrance door to Wall Street symbolizes how deeply intertwined patriotism and they have become throughout history. These diverse hints collectively paint a complex picture - an economic system that has shaped societies across time and borders while eliciting both admiration and criticism.
