Known for his astute political maneuvering and unwavering determination, he was the driving force behind France's rise to power during the 17th century. One of the defining moments in Richelieu's career was his leadership at the Siege of La Rochelle in 1628. This early 20th-century depiction captures him amidst the chaos and turmoil, strategizing with an unwavering resolve. His brilliant military tactics ultimately led to victory, solidifying his reputation as a formidable statesman. However, not everyone admired Richelieu's iron-fisted rule. The Marquis of Cinq Mars and Francois Auguste du Thou paid a heavy price for conspiring against him in 1642.
