Carle Vernet (1758-1836) was a French artist known for his lithographic prints and exquisite sketches. He collaborated with the Lithographic Printing House of F. Delpech, creating stunning works like the Revue du Quintidi in 1800 or 1801. Alongside Jean-Baptiste Isabey, Carle Vernet crafted this masterpiece that still captivates art enthusiasts today. In 1885, Vernet showcased his talent through "The Toilet Of The Clerk Prosecutor, " a piece that showcases his attention to detail and ability to capture everyday life, and is a testament to his skill as an artist. One of Vernet's most famous works is the portrait titled "Carle Vernet Sketching" from 1816, created by Emile Jean-Horace Vernet. This sketch perfectly captures Carle's dedication to his craft and reveals the passion he had for art. Vernet also ventured into fabric design, creating beautiful patterns like "La Route de Jouy" and "La Route de St. Cloud ou de Poissy. " These furnishing fabrics showcase not only his artistic versatility but also highlight the elegance and sophistication of French design during that era. Additionally, we see another side of Carle's creativity in pieces like "Dites Merci, " a stunning furnishing fabric designed by J. P Meillier et Cie in France around 1798. This work demonstrates how he seamlessly blended different mediums to create unique masterpieces. Beyond these intricate designs, Carle also depicted fashionable women through handcoloured copperplate engravings from the early 19th century. From embroidery with a hoop to playing guitar or wearing low-cut dresses, these illustrations offer glimpses into the fashion trends of that time while showcasing Carle's ability to capture beauty in every form. Carle Vernet left an indelible mark on both art history and textile design with his diverse body of work.
