The Cathedral of Saint Mary Assumption, located in an enchanting city, is a masterpiece that showcases the rich history and artistic brilliance of its time. As you enter the cathedral, your eyes are immediately drawn to the exquisite Presbytery adorned with intricate details. The Seventh North Span captivates visitors with its stunning portrayal of the Flight to Egypt and the heart-wrenching Massacre of the Innocents by Altobello Melon in 1516-17. Moving towards the South Transept, one cannot help but be mesmerized by the Altar of Visitation. Here, Gervaso Gatti's altarpiece beautifully depicts The Visitation of Mary to Cousin Elisabeth in 1583. Every detail tells a story, transporting you back in time. As you explore further into this sacred space, you come across another remarkable altar - San Fermo. Created by Angelo Nani and Gian Battista Natali between 1592-1676, it features a powerful Crucifixion scene with Saints Fermo Jerome and Pope Gregory XIV painted by Luca Cattapane in 1593. Intriguingly positioned within the North Pulpit lies Giovanni Antonio Piatti and Giovanni Antonio Amedeo's masterpiece from 1479. This awe-inspiring artwork portrays Mario Audiface and Abacone subjected to brutal flagellation as they emerge from their Ark Persian Martyrs' journey – a poignant tale recomposed by Luigi Voghera in 1814. Stepping into the North Transept counterfacade reveals yet more breathtaking artistry by Giovanni Antonio Amedeo from 1484. St Francis receiving stigmata alongside Jesus appearing to Magdalene leaves viewers awestruck at their beauty and spiritual significance. Finally reaching another section of this grand cathedral brings us face-to-face with Borroni's Altar of San Benedetto from 1744.
