Bette Davis, in her iconic role as Margo Channing in 'All About Eve' (1950), brought drama and intrigue to the silver screen, much like the complexities of the namesake character, Channing, held in this vintage photograph. The moniker, however, holds various meanings throughout history. William E. Channing, a Unitarian preacher, and Francis Barlow, a Union general during the American Civil War, both carried the name with distinction. Channing House School in Highgate, North London, and the Federal Road-show attraction, 'The Fool' by Channing Pollock, further add to the diverse associations of this name.
