"Circa 19th Century: A Glimpse into a World of Art, Culture, and Innovation" Step back in time to the 19th century, where creativity flourished and new ideas took shape. James Augustine Aloysius Joyce, an Irish novelist, short story writer, and poet, captivated readers with his literary genius. His works continue to inspire generations even after a contemporary print. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the renowned Russian composer of the romantic period, enchanted audiences with his melodic masterpieces. Illustrated by Gordon Ross, an American artist and illustrator from that era (1873-1946), we get a glimpse into Tchaikovsky's world through Living Biographies of Great Composers. Traveling to London in this image sequence takes us to Old Fish Street Hill and the Monument to the Great Fire. Here we see members of the London Fire Brigade during the 19th century when fire safety was paramount. This snapshot is from "Old England: A Pictorial Museum, " published in 1847. Venturing across continents brings us face-to-face with Ute Chief Sevara and his family. The Ute people left their mark on history as Utah bears their name today. Photographer Charles Nast captured their essence in a photo-chromolithograph around 1899. Samuel Taylor Coleridge emerges as another prominent figure from this era—a brilliant English poet known for his profound words that still resonate today. We catch a glimpse of him through a contemporary print that immortalizes his legacy. Architecture also played its part in shaping history during this time period—Russia's Saint Petersburg showcases its church of Resurrection (1883-1907) while Spain's Catalonia boasts Barcelona's Modernist Casa Vicens (1883-88). Madrid Province takes us further into Spain's rich heritage with Aranjuez's Real Casa del Labrador (Royal Farmers Cottage).
