Clusiaceae, also known as the Garcinia family, is a diverse group of plants that includes some fascinating and exotic species. One such member is the Mammee apple (Mammea americana), depicted beautifully in a watercolour by Delahaye in 1789. Another notable plant from this family is Gamboge, which produces a vibrant yellow resin used for various purposes. One of the most famous members of the Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana). Its purple fruit has gained worldwide recognition for its unique taste and health benefits. In fact, it's often referred to as "the queen of fruits. " The captivating image C016 / 5659 showcases this delicious fruit in all its glory. Other noteworthy species within Clusiaceae include Hanburys garcinia (Garcinia hanburyi) and kokam tree (Garcinia indica). These plants have their own distinct characteristics and uses. Hanburys garcinia produces gamboge, an orange-brown pigment widely utilized in art and dyeing industries. On the other hand, kokam tree bears small fruits with tangy flavors commonly used in culinary preparations. The beauty of nature shines through yet again with Pereskia grandifolia, also part of Clusiaceae. This rose cactus displays stunning flowers against its prickly stems, adding elegance to any garden or landscape. Even on market stalls across Hong Kong, China, you can find Purple Mangosteen fruit available for sale – a testament to its popularity among locals and tourists alike. Lastly, let's not forget Hypericum Hidcote - although not directly related to Clusiaceae - it deserves mention due to its striking appearance. With bright yellow flowers contrasting against dark green foliage, this plant adds vibrancy wherever it grows.
