"Courtisane: A Captivating Journey Through Time and Art" Step into the world of courtisanes, where beauty, allure, and intrigue intertwine. From Madonna surrounded by seraphim and cherubim in a mesmerizing oil painting from 1452 to the full-length portrait of Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour in 1756, these captivating women have left their mark on history. In literature, Victor Joze's novel "Reine de joie" takes us on a thrilling adventure with the Queen of Joy herself. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec's poster for this French masterpiece transports us back to c. 1892 when excitement filled the air. May brings courtiers walking gracefully through illuminated manuscript pages while Jeanne Becu, Countess du Barry captures our attention with her enchanting portrait. Liane De Pougy, a dancer and courtesan from la Belle Epoque era captivates us further as we explore an alphabet postcard dedicated to her. The Folies-Bergere comes alive with La Belle Otero as she dazzles audiences in an exquisite color lithograph poster from 1894. Meanwhile, Louis Marin Bonnet's engraving titled "La Toilette" reveals the intimate moments of preparation that these women indulged in. Josephine de Beauharnais steals our hearts as we delve into "La rose de Malmaison, " an exploration of her life as Empress alongside Napoleon Bonaparte. The Rite of Napoleon showcases Josephine and her followers alongside Philippe Henri in intricate detail. As we gaze upon Francois Desportes' painting depicting a Lady of the Court during Louis XIV's reign, we are transported to a time where elegance reigned supreme. Finally, a funeral statuette made under Tang Dynasty reminds us that even after death courtesans were celebrated for their beauty and influence.
