"Decking: A Glimpse into the Open-Air Baths of British Soldiers during WW1" During World War 1, amidst the chaos and hardships, a moment of respite could be found as British soldiers indulged in open-air bathing. Away from the trenches, these brave men sought solace in the waters, rejuvenating their spirits and finding temporary escape from the horrors of war. One such location where this practice took place was Littlehampton Pier. As waves crashed against its weathered pillars, soldiers would gather here to cleanse themselves and find a brief sense of normalcy amidst the turmoil that surrounded them. However, not all moments on deck were serene. The torpedoing of RMS Falaba on March 28th, 1915 stands as a haunting reminder of the dangers lurking at sea during wartime. Lifebelted passengers clung desperately to hope as tragedy struck this ill-fated ship off Jolly Harbour in St. Mary, Antigua - an event forever etched into history. Yet even in times of peace and leisurely pursuits, decking played a role in creating memorable experiences. Deckchairs lined up along Deauville's seafront boardwalk offered visitors a chance to relax and soak up the sun while enjoying breathtaking views over Cote Fleurie. For those seeking ultimate luxury and tranquility far away from bustling cities, Fregate Island Resort in Seychelles provided an idyllic setting for unwinding on pristine decks overlooking the Indian Ocean - a slice of paradise nestled within Africa's embrace. The significance extended beyond leisure activities alone; it also played an essential role aboard grand vessels like RMS Olympic by White Star Line. Crafted meticulously with pitch pine deck sections that stood strong against tumultuous seas, these ships carried countless souls across vast oceans with utmost reliability. Even closer to home shores lay Hammock at Beach House in Barbuda - another Caribbean gem offering relaxation and serenity.
