Ebizo Ichikawa, also known as Danjuro V, was a renowned actor in the world of kabuki theater during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His talent and versatility on stage captivated audiences for over two decades. One of his notable roles was Mongaku Shonin Disguised as Yamagatsu, portrayed between 1781 and 1801. In this role, Ebizo showcased his ability to transform into different characters with ease, captivating the audience with his powerful performances. As a youth, Ebizo played Danjuro with a Toy Horse under Plum Blossoms. This portrayal by Ippitsusai Buncho highlighted his early talent and potential as an actor. Even at such a young age, he displayed remarkable skill and charisma that would later define his career. In another iconic performance from 1802's "Hatsumonbi Yosooi Soga, " Ebizo took on the character Akushichibyoe Kagekiyo. Utagawa Toyokuni I captured the intensity of Ebizo's acting in this play through intricate artwork that still resonates today. The Shibaraku scene from "Sei" in 1796 featured Ebizo as Usui Arataro Sadamitsu. Utagawa Kunimasa beautifully depicted the dramatic moment when Ebizo commanded attention on stage with his commanding presence and striking expressions. Another memorable role was Minamoto no Yoshiie in "Date Nishiki Tsui no Yum" from 1778. Torii Kiyonaga immortalized Danjuro V's performance through detailed artwork that showcased both strength and vulnerability within this character. Collaborating with other talented actors was also one of Ebizo's strengths.
