"Edward VI: The Young King Who Left a Mark on England" In this captivating collection of engravings and oil paintings, we catch glimpses of the life and reign of Edward VI, the boy king who ascended to the English throne in 1547 at the tender age of nine. The first engraving shows us a young Prince Edward, merely one year old, his innocent face hinting at the great destiny that awaited him. As he grew older, another engraving portrays him as King Edward VI of England, his regal demeanor already evident despite his youth. An oil painting captures Edward's likeness with remarkable detail - every brushstroke immortalizing his presence during those tumultuous years from 1537 to 1553, and is through these images that we can imagine the weight he carried as ruler and witness how he left an indelible mark on history. Amongst these depictions are also glimpses into Edward's personal life. We see him as a playful child in an engraving titled "Edward, Prince of Wales, " aged three to five. Another engraving showcases Hampton Court Palace where he resided; its Chapel Court visible from what was once known as Prince Edwards (later King Edward VI) Lodgings. But it wasn't just art that shaped our understanding of this monarch; historical artifacts like Great Seals tell their own story. From King Edward III to Edward VI himself, they symbolize power passed down through generations. Notably present is Thomas Seymour, Baron Seymour - Lord High Admiral during Edward's reign - captured in an intriguing engraving alongside other influential figures who played pivotal roles in shaping England's future. Even beyond his lifetime, echoes of King Edward VI resonate throughout Sherborne’s Sanatorium – part of today’s King Edward VI School – reminding us not only of his legacy but also how education became intertwined with royal patronage under his rule. Edward VI may have been young, but his impact on England was profound.
