Edward Douglas Scott Montagu, also known as Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, was a man of many talents and experiences. From his early days as a child in a Vauxhall pedal car to his later years scrubbing floors in Palace House, he never shied away from hard work. In 1899, Lord Montagu had the privilege of sharing a Daimler with none other than Prince Charles himself. This encounter marked the beginning of his illustrious journey through life. Lord Montagu's love for automobiles was evident throughout his life. Whether it was posing next to an Austin Champ at Beaulieu in 1968 or showcasing a 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost at the 1964 World's Fair in New York, he always had an affinity for classic cars. But Lord Montagu wasn't just about cars; he enjoyed rubbing shoulders with celebrities too. In 1966, he could be seen alongside Peter Sellers and Britt Ekland at Beaulieu, adding glamour to any occasion. His passion for history and preservation led him to open the Beaulieu Monorail in 1974 where even The Wombles joined him on this momentous day. He believed in creating spaces that would stand the test of time and bring joy to future generations. Lord Montagu's social circle extended beyond celebrities; he also hosted Dame Vera Lynn at one of his parties during the mid-1970s. These gatherings were filled with laughter and memories that would last a lifetime. Even royalty couldn't resist Lord Montagu's charm. In 1977, H. R. H Queen Elizabeth herself shared a ride with him in a majestic Royal Daimler – truly an unforgettable experience for both. As time went on, Lord Montagu continued making waves not only within automotive circles but also within political spheres. His presence at Houses of Parliament in London during 1999 showcased his influence and dedication to public service.
