Edward Kennedy Ellington, also known as Duke Ellington, was a legendary American composer, pianist, and bandleader who revolutionized the world of jazz music. Born in 1899 in Washington D.C., Ellington's career spanned over five decades and he is considered one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. Ellington's innovative style combined elements of blues, classical music, and swing to create a sound that was uniquely his own. His compositions such as "Mood Indigo," "Take the 'A' Train," and "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" are still beloved classics today. As a bandleader, Ellington led one of the most successful jazz orchestras in history, known for its impeccable musicianship and groundbreaking arrangements. He collaborated with some of the biggest names in music including Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and John Coltrane.
