Emile Loubet (1838-1929) was a prominent figure in French politics during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As the President of France from 1899 to 1906, he faced both triumphs and challenges that shaped his legacy. One notable event in Loubet's presidency was his visit to Rome, as depicted in a coloured engraving from Le Petit Journal on May 8th, 1904. This trip showcased his diplomatic skills and highlighted France's international relations at the time. Another captivating illustration for Le Rire portrayed a festival held amidst the ruins of Pompeii. This colourful lithograph symbolized Loubet's appreciation for cultural heritage and his commitment to promoting art and history within France. Loubet's influence extended beyond national borders when he welcomed King Edward VII of Sweden during his visit to Paris. The vibrant lithograph captured this significant meeting between two heads of state, emphasizing Loubet's role as an esteemed leader on the global stage. However, not all moments were filled with celebration. An incident recorded by "Le Petit Journal" on June 18th, 1899 showed an aggression against President Loubet himself. Despite facing such challenges, he remained resilient and continued to serve his country with dedication. Loubet also demonstrated inclusivity by meeting with various delegations throughout his presidency. A colour lithograph depicted him welcoming a Breton delegation at the Elysee Palace, showcasing his commitment to engaging with different regions within France. The Tuileries Gardens witnessed another significant event during Loubet's tenure – a banquet hosted by him for French Provincial Mayors on September 22nd. This lithograph illustrated how he fostered unity among local leaders while enjoying the beauty of nature within Parisian landmarks. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that President Loubet shared memorable moments with other world leaders like King Edward VII during a train journey.
