In the enchanting month of December, amidst the grandeur of Chateau de Vincennes, a captivating creature roams freely - the Eurasian wild pig. This majestic animal has traversed through time, leaving its mark on various artistic masterpieces. Dating back to the 15th century, Paul Limbourg immortalized this magnificent beast in his creation. The eurasian wild pig stands as a symbol of strength and resilience against the backdrop of history. Fast forward to 1939, an Aboriginal finds himself in danger while ascending the Cofre de Perote in Mexico. Little did he know that lurking nearby was this formidable creature, embodying both power and danger. Luca Cambiaso's masterpiece from 1560-65 depicts Venus and nymphs lamenting over Adonis' death. In this poignant scene, one cannot help but notice the presence of a eurasian wild pig; perhaps representing mortality or nature's cycle. Joannes Meyssens captures Atalanta and Meleager in their legendary hunt during ca. 1640-70. Amongst all creatures they encounter on their quest for victory, it is the eurasian wild pig that challenges them with its tenacity and ferocity. Jan Saenredam's allegories from different periods depict triumphs over Spain and flourishing states like United Provinces (1600 & 1602). These artworks subtly incorporate images of boars as symbols of courage and prosperity within these historical contexts. Leon Davent showcases a young man hunting a wild boar in his work from 1547. The artist skillfully portrays both hunter and hunted with equal intensity - capturing not only physical prowess but also primal instincts awakened by such encounters. The Seven Deadly Sins series (ca. 1550-55) by Leon Davent features lust personified alongside other vices; here again we find ourselves face-to-face with our untamed desires embodied by the eurasian wild pig.
