"Evangelical: A Journey Through Time and Faith" Step into the world of evangelicalism, a rich tapestry woven with religious fervor and spiritual devotion. From ancient manuscripts to modern-day missions, these captivating images offer glimpses into the diverse history of this influential movement. The journey begins with a glimpse at the "Portrait of Saint Matthew" from the Book of Lindisfarne Gospels, an illuminated masterpiece crafted around 700 AD. The intricate details and vibrant colors bring to life the sacred text, inspiring generations to embrace their faith. Moving forward in time, we encounter George Whitefield preaching at Moorfields Fair in 1742. His passionate sermons captivated audiences as he spread the message of salvation far and wide. This momentous event marked a turning point for evangelicalism's growth across continents. In contrast, Gustave Doré's wood engraving depicts a chilling scene - "Vision of Death. " Inspired by Revelation 6:8, it portrays death riding on a pale horse. This haunting image reminds us that evangelicals have long grappled with themes of mortality and redemption throughout history. Pennsylvania's Bethlehem settlement comes next; its Moravian community thrived along the Lehigh River in 1757. Nicholas Garrison's contemporary painting captures their peaceful existence amidst nature's beauty – an embodiment of communal living rooted in evangelical principles. Turning our attention to manuscript artistry once again, we delve into Ireland's iconic Book of Kells. St John’s symbol shines brightly on folio 27v detail – an exquisite example blending Hiberno-Saxon influences dating back to c800 AD. These symbols continue to inspire believers today. John Wesley emerges as another pivotal figure within evangelicalism – founder of Methodism and English theologian extraordinaire. We witness his miraculous rescue from fire at Epworth rectory in Lincolnshire through a line engraving from the 19th century.
