"Feast Table: A Journey Through Time and Cultures" Step into the world of extravagant banquets and lavish feasts as we explore the captivating history of the feast table. From Dutch banquets to Nagasaki on Christmas Eve, these historical moments have been immortalized in art, giving us a glimpse into the opulence and grandeur of these occasions. In 1797, Bankan-zu captured a Dutch banquet in all its glory. The table adorned with delectable dishes served amidst an atmosphere of celebration and merriment. Fast forward to 1893, where Russian naval officers gathered at the Town Hall for a banquet fit for royalty. The elegance exuded by their presence is palpable even through time. Sebastiaen Vrancx's "Fete champetre" from c. 1615-1620 transports us to a joyous outdoor gathering filled with music, dance, and laughter. Meanwhile, Hendrik van Balen's "The Feast of Achelous" depicts mythical beings indulging in an ethereal feast that seems straight out of folklore. Pieter Aertsen's "The Parable of the Wedding Feast" takes inspiration from biblical tales as it portrays guests enjoying sumptuous delicacies while engaging in lively conversations. Jean Beraud's "La soiree - Autour du piano, " created around 1880, captures an intimate soirée where friends gather around a piano creating beautiful melodies. Francken’s depiction of Diana and her nymphs bathing alongside a stag hunt showcases not only nature’s abundance but also revelry amongst companionship during feasts held after successful hunts. Lami's painting brings us to Versailles in 1854 when Napoleon III presided over an exquisite dinner party that epitomized extravagance. Jan Cossiers' "The merry company (The Five Senses)" presents us with scenes depicting taste, touch, sight, smell, and sound - all elements that enrich the feast table experience.
