Ferdinand II, also known as Ferdinand the Catholic, was a powerful ruler who played a significant role in shaping the history of Spain. As King of Aragon and Castile, he married Isabella I of Castile to unite their kingdoms and create a strong alliance. Together, they completed the Reconquista by driving out the Moors from Granada in 1492. Ferdinand was instrumental in funding Christopher Columbus' voyage to the New World, which led to Spain becoming a major colonial power. He also established the Spanish Inquisition to root out heresy and maintain religious unity within his kingdom. Despite his successes, Ferdinand's reign was not without controversy. He expelled Jews and Muslims from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, leading to widespread persecution and discrimination.
