Fernand Cormon, a renowned French painter born in 1845, is captured in various moments throughout his artistic journey. In a black and white photograph from 1845, we catch a glimpse of the young artist, Fernand Cormon. Fast forward to later years, and we see him depicted in a colorful lithograph within his studio. The self-portrait he created in 1912 showcases his talent and introspection as an artist. One of Cormon's notable works is "Cite Lacustre" from 1897, where he displays his mastery of composition and detail. This piece was printed by Imprimerie Champenois. Another remarkable creation is "The Fourteenth of the Line at Eylau, " painted in 1896, which depicts a historic moment with great emotion. Interestingly enough, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec studied under Fernand Cormon at the Atelier Cormon. A photograph captures them both during this time; Lautrec seated at the foreground while Cormon sits confidently at the easel. Throughout his career, Fernand Cormon continued to produce exceptional artwork like his self-portrait from 1912 or "Cite Lacustre" once again featured in L'Estampe Moderne magazine. In addition to painting scenes full of life and history such as "Warrior Axe Study Leg" and "Standing Man, " he also explored more intimate subjects like the delicate portrayal of a woman crouching on paper using graphite and oil paint. Fernand-Anne Piestre (aka Fernand Cormon) left an indelible mark on art history with his skillful brushstrokes and dedication to teaching aspiring artists like Emile Bernard and Vincent van Gogh. As we reflect upon these glimpses into Fernand Cormon's life through photographs, lithographs, self-portraits, studies of warriors or common people alike - it becomes evident that his artistic legacy continues to inspire and captivate audiences even today.
