Witnessing History in the Skies: Fort Myer, Virginia, was the epicenter of aviation innovation in the early 1900s. The Wright Brothers chose this location for their groundbreaking test flights with the Wright Flyer in 1909. In this historic moment, onlookers gathered to marvel at the sight of manned flight for the first time. However, not all flights ended in success – the tragic first fatal air crash occurred at Fort Myer in 1908, a sobering reminder of the risks and challenges faced in the pursuit of aviation progress.
