"The Tragic Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand: A Fateful Day in History" In the year 1914, a fateful event unfolded that would ignite the flames of one of history's deadliest conflicts. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austrian throne, and his beloved wife Duchess Sophia, were ruthlessly taken from this world on June 28th in Sarajevo. As captured by an anonymous artist's litho and black-and-white photographs, the scene of their assassination remains etched in our collective memory. The couple can be seen leaving the Town Hall just moments before their tragic deaths. Little did they know that Gavrilo Princip, a young assassin with a fervent nationalist agenda, lurked nearby.
