Step back in time to the Historical Caffè Gambrinus in Naples, Campania, Italy, a legendary establishment steeped in history and tradition. This iconic bar pays homage to King Gambrinus, the mythical monarch believed to be the founder of beer brewing in Europe. With a regal touch, often depicted riding on a barrel, symbolizing his royal connection to the frothy beverage. The legend of King Gambrinus, also known as the King of Beer, dates back to the Middle Ages. This beloved figure has been immortalized in various illustrations, such as the one from 1880 by Hans Makart, showcasing the monarch's majesty and the importance of his brewing craft. As the years passed, King Gambrinus continued to inspire and influence popular culture. In the late 1800s, political cartoons like the one from 1877, "Reform is Necessary in the Foreign Line," used the King Gambrinus symbol to comment on immigration issues. During celebrations and festivities, the spirit of King Gambrinus lived on. In the 1871 Peace Jubilee procession, a float featuring the king and his brewers proudly joined the parade, symbolizing unity, peace, and the enduring love for beer brewing.
