"Gelatin Silver Print: Capturing Moments in Time" Step into the world of gelatin silver prints, a captivating medium that has preserved significant moments throughout history. From the powerful image of "Deaf Bull" by Laton Alton Huffman, circa 1880, to the alluring "Nude (Reclining with Hands behind Head)" from 1930, these photographs offer glimpses into different eras and perspectives. Intriguingly, the tableau synoptic des traits physionomiques serves as a study tool for understanding human features. Meanwhile, Alfred Stieglitz's "Georgia O'Keeffe - Torso" from 1918 captures the essence of this iconic artist through his lens. The enigmatic "Batavian Woman, " created by an unknown artist in the 1860s-70s, invites us to ponder her story lost in time. The gelatin silver print collection also includes portraits of notable figures such as William F. Buffalo Bill Cody and Rosa Bonheur alongside Chief Rocky Bear and Chief Red Shirt. These images provide a glimpse into their lives and legacies. Giorgio de Castiglione's portrait taken by Pierre-Louis Pierson in 1861 showcases both artistry and technical skill within this medium. Another striking nude photograph from 1930 highlights how they can capture beauty even when it challenges societal norms. Moving beyond individuals, we find historical events frozen in time like "Ashantee King Carried by Slaves under State Umbrella Surrounded by Followers" around c. 1890 or Arnold Genthe's haunting documentation of the San Francisco Earthquake in April 1906. Thompson Studio's untitled portrait from either 1880 or 1899 reminds us that every individual has a unique story waiting to be discovered through these timeless prints. Finally, Johnston & Hoffmann transport us to Calcutta with their depiction of the majestic Victoria Memorial in the 1910s.
