Grigory Alexandrovich Potyomkin, the Prince of Tauris and General-Field Marshal, was a pivotal figure in late 18th-century Russia. Known for his military prowess and political acumen, Potyomkin rose to prominence under Catherine II, serving as her trusted advisor and chief of the Chevalier Guard. His portrait, depicted in various engravings and paintings, showcases his regal presence and military attire. Notable events during his tenure include the grand fireworks display at Kaniow in 1787, celebrating Catherine II's victory over the Ottoman Empire. However, Potyomkin's legacy was tragically cut short when he was killed in the Bessarabian steppe in 1791. Despite his untimely death, his impact on Russian history remains significant.
