Goorkhas: The Fearless Warriors of the British Army in India Step back in time and witness the remarkable legacy of the Goorkhas, a legendary group of soldiers who left an indelible mark on history. From their early encounters with royalty to their heroic exploits on treacherous battlefields, these brave warriors have captivated hearts for generations. In 1863, amidst the grandeur of Delhi, The Prince of Wales found himself immersed in awe-inspiring scenes at a Goorkha camp. Engravings from that era depict the stoic faces and disciplined formations that defined this revered regiment. Venturing further into India's Eastern Frontier, conflict erupted in Manipur. Engravings vividly portray the outrage and turmoil faced by both sides as they clashed fiercely. Meanwhile, another engraving takes us to Afghanistan's dusty roads leading to Candahar - a testament to the Goorkhas' unwavering determination even amidst adversity. Marching through Indian landscapes was no easy feat; yet, engravings reveal how these warriors formed an unyielding rear guard during arduous campaigns. In 1878, we catch a glimpse of camaraderie at Mess as Prince Charles dines with his own loyal band - forever etching their loyalty into history. The Looshai Expedition showcases their tenacity as they forge ahead through impenetrable bamboo jungles – clearing paths for victory against all odds. Further north lies Sikkim Campaigns where engravings narrate tales from Black Mountain notes - showcasing bravery beyond measure. Skirmishes were not limited to foreign lands alone; our native Indian troops engaged in fierce battles against these formidable fighters at Almorah. These encounters exemplify the respect earned by Goorkhas even amongst fellow countrymen. Celebrating Queen Victoria's Jubilee brought together people from diverse backgrounds including Abbottabad in Punjaub province where engravings capture the jubilant scenes of unity and pride.
