Genghis Khan (c. 1158-1227), the legendary founder of the Mongol Empire, is depicted in various historical records and artworks. In Rashid al-Din's "Illustrated History of the World," Genghis is shown in his tent, a testament to his military prowess and nomadic lifestyle. The Great Khan's conquests reached far and wide, from Damascus to China, as seen in an engraving of his visit to the latter city. Marco Polo the younger was among the many envoys and travelers who presented themselves before Kublai Khan (1215-1295), the fifth Great Khan and founder of the Yuan dynasty in China. In this illustration by Gordon Ross, Kublai Khan is seen in regal attire, judging rebels. Genghis Khan's statue stands tall in the Mongolian countryside, a symbol of his enduring legacy. This map illustrates the extent of the Mongol Empire at its greatest reach, showcasing the vast territories ruled by these great Khans.
